Through the 1940s and 1950s, Rini Pharmacy was the main gathering place for Palos Heights’ residents, as the Rinis operated a soda fountain, malt shop, and ice cream parlor adjacent to the pharmacy. The Palos Heights tradition of the free outdoor movie got its start at Rini Pharmacy, where during summers Vincent would show a free movie on the building’s side wall. During the 1960s, the soda fountain closed, but it reopened in 1989 and operated much as it had 30 years prior, complete with authentic Hamilton-Beach mixers.
Residents were chagrined when Rini Pharmacy closed in 2007, some of whom had been customers for decades. Still, the legacy the Rini family has in Palos Heights is not easily forgotten and lives in the fond memories of many, many people
