The Friends of the Library held their BIG Winter Book and Magazine Sale February 1st through the 4th. Nearly $2,400 was raised and the Library was able to dispose of their back issues of magazines. Thank you to all who helped make the Winter Sale a huge success! The next Friends Book Sale will take place in August, 2013. Stay tuned for more information.
We thank the community for their support in donating items, as well as purchasing materials at the four day sale. What happens with the leftover materials? The Friends keep some of the paperbacks to stock the paperback rack that they maintain at the Palos Heights Metra station. The remainder is picked up by an organization called Reading Tree. Reading Tree is a nonprofit organization with a mission to provide books to disadvantaged families. They accept all types of books (and other materials) and support literacy with our sustainable model of reuse, recycling and fund-raising. Reading Tree is committed to keep millions of usable books out of our nation’s landfills.
