BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES
JULY 13, 2006

Call to Order:
President Beth Barista called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. in the Library, 12501 S. 71st Avenue, Palos Heights, Illinois.  Present were Trustees:  Pat Eden, Julie Lawler, Beverly Meyer, Pat Muller, Timothy Murney, Frank Petrosino, William Poore, and Beth Barista.      Trustee Diana Roscich arrived at 7:15 p.m.  Also present was Administrative Librarian Elaine Savage. 

Minutes:
Trustee Meyer moved to approve the minutes of June 8, 2006; seconded by Trustee Poore.  On a voice vote, motion carried unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report:
Trustee Eden moved, Trustee Poore seconded to approve the additional June bills in the amount of $64,058.59.  On a roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.  Trustee Eden moved; Trustee Muller seconded to approve the July bills of $26,013.40.  On a roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.

President’s Report:
Trustee Barista reported that she attended the long range planning meeting with a representative from Trinity Christian College concerning the survey they will compile.  She also noted that the library parking lot is a ‘busy place’ on Sunday mornings with St. Alexander’s use.

Librarian’s Report:
Administrative Librarian Savage presented her goals’ progress sheet.  Friends staffed the Farmer’s Market.  Administrative Librarian Savage has had to install the lock on the gate, as St. Al’s failed to do so as per our agreement with them.  The library neighbor to the east is still complaining and wants the east drain pipe buried.  The city administrator has informed him that the library has conformed to City Building Codes.  She also reported that the Palos Heights Library will host the Art and Architecture in Illinois Library traveling exhibit.  Dates for the Friend’s Book Sale are August 12- 15, 2006.  On July 28th the library will host a movie, “Madagascar” in the parking lot.  Pat Eden will be attending a trustee workshop on Saturday.

Building & Grounds:
Air conditioning is still posing problems-possible contactors have gone bad. The Board indicated that the Administrative Librarian should continue with Amber’s recommendations.

Long Range Planning:
Trustee Meyer reported that a meeting has been held with the Trinity representative, John Kooyenga.  The process will begin after the summer break.  Trinity will cover the cost of return postage for surveys.  Trustee Poore moved and Trustee Petrosino seconded to approve that the Library cover the cost of the survey mailing.  On a roll call vote the motion carried unanimously.

Personnel:    
None.

Friends of the Library Liaison:
Trustee Poore reported that the Friends will have a new brochure and they are preparing for the August Book Sale.  Also the Friends will be greeters at the Farmer’s Market on August 9th, 2006.  Planning will begin for Christmastime in Palos to be held on December 2nd, 2006.

City Council Liaison:
Trustee Poore reported the City is looking for a replacement for recreation director Mark Purcell.  The Sidewalk Sale will be held July 13, 14, & 15th 2006.  Bill also promoted the Bike and Shop program.

Local History:    
None.

Old Business:
HVAC - Administrative Librarian Savage reported that ComEd is still monitoring voltage and about her attempt to contact the representative from Carrier. She is now working through Amber for Carrier input.

Adjacent Property - Administrative Librarian noted Trustee Eden will e-mail the library neighbor to the east concerning availability of his property.

New Business:
Nominating Committee Appointments - Trustee Barista appointed Trustee Lawler, Trustee Muller, and Trustee Roscich to the nominating committee with Trustee Muller as chair.

Staffing - Trustee Petrosino moved and Trustee Roscich seconded having MMBA & Associates continue doing the Treasurer’s Report and for Administrative Librarian Savage to advertise for an Administrative Assistant for between 20-28 hours per week.  On a roll call vote the motion carried 8-1.

Adjournment:
Trustee Meyer moved, and Trustee Lawler seconded to adjourn the meeting.  On a voice vote the motion carried unanimously.  President Barista adjourned the meeting at 8:40 p.m.

Teen Corner: Programs for Tweens and Teens

Teen Sports Bar - Mondays at 1:30pm

Grades 6 and up.
July 7 - Altered Shirts. Bring an ordinary t-shirt and turn it into your own unique fashion statement.
July 14 - Sport Demo. Come in and see a demonstration on frisbee golf. There will also be a few frisbee golf discs given away.
July 21 - Altered Books. Bring your own paperback or use one of ours to create a book that is uniquely you.

Mother Daughter Book Discussion - July 7 at 7 pm
Book Lovers. Grades 6 and up. We will read and discuss 13 Little Blue Envelopes by Maureen Johnson.

TGIF Games -  Friday, July 11 & 25 at 1pm
Play a variety of board and electronic games with your friends.
