The Census staff will be here three times per week from March 19 - April 19 to answer any questions you may have about the census form. Call the Library for exact times.

Have Books - Will Travel
The Library offers delivery service for the homebound. If you are physically unable to make it to the Library, you may be eligible for this service. Contact the Library and ask for Adult Services to learn more.

MediaOnDemand Downloadable Audiobooks
modwebgraphic.gif Now you can download best selling digital titles 24/7 to your PC, or supported mobile device at home, in the office or from anywhere in the world. To access MediaOnDemand all you need is a Palos Heights Library card. You can have up to five titles checked out and five items on hold at any given time. The Library has a dedicated computer "station" for patrons to download titles to their own devices. Visit the MediaOnDemand website at www.mediaondemand.org to browse the online catalog and to learn more about downloading specific titles.

FREE Shredding!
Tuesday, April 13 - 9am to 12pm

Get your Spring cleaning in full swing at the Palos Heights Public Library. We will have FREE shredding available at the Library. Bring stacks of unwanted paper and have them shredded confidentially, and recycled responsibly. No need to remove staples or paperclips. No mess, no clean up, no worries!

Communities Thrive @ Your Library
It's time to celebrate your Library. National Library Week celebrates the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide.
An Evening with Mark Twain - April 16 at 7pm

The Friends of the Library are sponsoring “An Evening with Mark Twain” starring Dave Ehlert, a Branson, Missouri favorite. The event is FREE, but you must have a ticket. Tickets will be available beginning Thursday, April 1st, at the library.
Celebrity Librarians -
Come meet our celebrity lbirarians Mon - Thurs at 10am and 3pm in the Adult & Youth Services departments.
Family Book Bags -
Let the Youth Services staff help you choose an exciting variety of books for your family to check out during National Library Week. Fill out a request form before April 7th. You can pick up your bags between April 14 – 17. Youth Services offers prizes for completing our daily word games and puzzles.
Photo Contest - All ages are invited to enter a photo of someone reading somewhere in our community (except the Library). Photos should be 4” x 6”, color or black & white. Entries should be submitted between March 1 & March 31. Patrons will vote on the photos between April 1 and April 15. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded on April 16th. (photos will not be returned.) There will be 6 prize categories - Most Humorous, Most Creative and Best Picture in the following age groups: Youth Ages 6 – 12, Young Adult Ages 13 – 17, Adult Ages 18 – 54 and Seniors 55 and up.

BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES
December 11, 2008

Call to Order:

President Bill Poore called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Library, 12501 S. 71st Avenue, Palos Heights, Illinois. Present were Trustees: Beverly Meyer, Patricia Muller, Julie Lawler, Marianne Orr, Lois Stanciak, and Trustee Frank Petrosino arrived at 7:30p.m. Also present were Administrative Librarian Elaine Savage and Administrative Assistant Terry Fleckenstein. Absent were Trustees: Beth Barista and Diana Roscich.

Welcome of Guests:
None.

Minutes:
Trustee Meyer moved and Trustee Muller seconded a motion to approve the minutes of November 13, 2008. On a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.  

Treasurer’s Report:             
Trustee Muller moved and Trustee Stanciak seconded a motion to approve the additional November bills in the amount of $44,178.42 for total November bills in the amount of $387,213.40. On a roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. Trustee Stanciak moved and Trustee Muller seconded a motion to approve December bills in the amount of $47,765.09. On a roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.

President’s Report:   
President Poore reported that he will not be at the January meeting and therefore Trustee Muller will be the acting President for the meeting.

Librarian’s Report:     
Administrative Librarian Savage presented her written report. Librarian Savage reported that circulation numbers are up, the Barnes & Noble fundraiser was successful and that Library Staff have been attending meetings. The Hennen’s American Public Library Ratings for 2008 were distributed to the Board and the report was reviewed and discussed.

Correspondence: 
Administrative Librarian Savage sent a thank-you note for her 20th Anniversary Recognition gift. Several thank-you notes were received from Staff for the Christmas party and Appreciation award. Trustee Stanciak sent a thank-you for the Christmastime in Palos event. The Art Park committee sent a donation solicitation which the Board discussed and pursuant to past protocol denied.

Publicity: 
No report.  

Building and Grounds:  
The Board reviewed Engberg Anderson’s updated design for the “Bookstore” alcove. Trustee Petrosino moved and Trustee Meyer seconded a motion to have the architects provide a 3D color rendering of the new Bookstore design and a construction drawing for bid purposes.  On a roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.

Friends of the Library Liaison:            
President Poore reported that Christmastime in Palos was very successful. The Friends’ updated membership brochure is now available.  The Friends Shop & Share dates are December 14, 15, and 16, 2008; the Country House benefit will run again in January and February; and the Winter Book/Magazine Sale will be held on February 6 through 9, 2009.  Trustee Meyer reported that some patrons have an issue with vendors being admitted to the Preview Night.

City Council Liaison:
President Poore reported that the City Council passed the Levy on December 2, 2008.

New Business:
Holiday Party Review - The Board reviewed the Holiday Party and determined that it was very successful.  

Salary Adjustment - The Board discussed the salary adjustments for 2009.  Trustee Petrosino moved and Trustee Stanciak seconded a motion to accept the budgeted 3% salary adjustment effective January 11, 2008 and to have the Personnel Committee review the policy for future salary adjustments and to make recommendations to the Board.  On a roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.

None.

Adjournment:
Trustee Stanciak moved and Trustee Meyer seconded a motion to adjourn. On a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
