BOARD OF TRUSTEES MINUTES
June 24, 2008


Call to Order:
President Bill Poore called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Library, 12501 S. 71st Avenue, Palos Heights, Illinois. Present were Trustees: Patricia Muller, Beverly Meyer, Julie Lawler, Beth Barista and Frank Petrosino. Also present were Administrative Librarian Elaine Savage and Administrative Assistant Terry Fleckenstein. Diana Roscich and Lois Stanciak were absent. 

Minutes:
Trustee Muller moved and Trustee Meyer seconded a motion to approve the minutes of May 8, 2008. On a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report: 
           
Trustee Petrosino moved and Trustee Meyer seconded a motion to approve the additional May bills in the amount of $53,515.53 for total May bills in the amount of $154,983.04. On a roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously. Trustee Petrosino moved, and Trustee Muller seconded, a motion to approve the June bills in the amount of $56,846.95.  On a roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously.

President’s Report:  
President Poore appointed the nominating committee of Trustees Meyer, Petrosino and Lawler to suggest a vice-president candidate for next meeting.

Librarian’s Report:
    
Administrative Librarian Savage presented her written report. She highlighted the summer reading programs. Youth Services has had a large increase in participants from last year. The Library will be showing an outdoor movie in September. MLS is investigating Museum passes for the Library patrons. The Lion’s Club sent their annual donation. Each board member was given a copy of the Open Meeting Act Guide to update board law knowledge.

Friends of the Library Liaison:            
President Poore announced that the Friends book sale will start on August 8th and end with a bag sale on 12th. August 6th the Friends will be at the Farmers Market, and December 6th will be the 4th annual Christmastime in Palos.

City Council Liaison:
President Poore stated that the City’s Long Range Comprehensive Plan has been passed. On July 3rd in Community Park, the City’s celebration will be held. A  Gala with fireworks is held at Lake Katherine.  The July 4th parade starts at 10am. Also, on July 4th is a concert at St. Al’s

Salary Review:

Old Business:  
Library Logo - Trustee Meyer moved and Trustee Poore seconded a motion to approve a new logo as presented for the Library. On a roll call vote, the motion carried unanimously

New Business:
By-Laws Revision - Copies of the revised By-Laws were handed out to all board members. Board members are to review the changes and vote at the next meeting on the changes.

Gifts to the Library:
Trustee Meyer moved and Trustee Barista seconded a motion to have non-specified gift money over $100 tracked and reported annually at the March board meeting. On a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

Palmer Award:
Trustee Meyer moved and Trustee Petrosino seconded a motion to award Pat Eden the George Palmer Award at the next Board Meeting. On a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

Executive Session:
Trustee Barista moved and Trustee Muller seconded a motion to go into executive session at 8:15 p.m. Trustee Barista moved and Trustee Petrosino seconded a motion to leave executive session. On a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously. The executive session adjourned at 9:04 p.m.

Trustee Meyer moved and Trustee Muller seconded a motion to approve the executive session minutes of May 8, 2008.  On voice vote, the motion carried unanimously.

Adjournment:
Trustee Barista moved, Trustee Muller seconded a motion to adjourn. On a voice vote, the motion carried unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 9:05 p.m.

Computer Education

John Hojek teaches computer education classes all over the southwest side and now, you can learn from his expertise. John will lead the following four classes and provide laptop computers for all attendees. There is a resident and non-resident fee, no refunds, and limit of 15 students. Non-residents may register one week before program dates, if space is available.

If your computer has turned into a slug, it's time to give it a boost! Learn how to clean up and delete old and hazardous files to optimize performance. This class will also cover security issues, virus protection and more.
